A Step-by-Step Guide to Installing Windows 10 from a Downloaded ISO
Installing Windows 10 can be a straightforward process, but it requires some basic computer knowledge and attention to detail. In this article, we will walk you through the steps involved in installing Windows 10 using an ISO file.
Preparation is Key
Before we begin, make sure you have:
- A blank USB drive (at least 8GB in size) with enough space available for installation
- An internet connection to download and transfer files
- Your Windows 10 product key (if you still need it)
- The Rufus tool installed on your computer
Step 1: Prepare the USB Drive
Insert your blank USB drive into a free USB port, making sure it is not yet inserted in another device. Connect the other end to the same port. It’s essential to insert the drive before booting up the computer.
Step 2: Enter Safe Mode (Optional but Recommended)
To prevent any potential issues with the installation process:
- Restart your computer and immediately hold down the Shift key while powering it on.
- Release the Shift key as soon as you see the BIOS screen to enter Safe Mode.
- This step is optional, but recommended if you encounter any problems during the installation.
Step 3: Boot from the USB Drive
To start the installation process:
- Insert your USB drive into the computer’s primary USB port.
- Restart the computer and select your language as your default language from the boot menu (usually F12 or Del key).
- Select «Repair Your Computer» or «Troubleshoot» and then choose «Windows Media Creation Tool».
- In the Windows Media Creation Tool, select the USB drive you inserted earlier and click on «Create a creation tool now».
Step 4: Create a Bootable Installation Media
The Windows Media Creation Tool will create a bootable installation media (ISO file) from your downloaded ISO.
- Wait for the ISO file to be created and saved as a .iso file.
- Make sure you have enough space on the USB drive for the ISO file, leaving some room for any additional files that may be required by the installation process.
Step 5: Boot from the Installation Media
To begin the installation:
- Restart your computer again, selecting «Custom» or «Advanced Options» during the boot process.
- Select your language and other preferences as needed.
- Click on the «Create a custom install media» option to create a new USB drive for Windows 10.
Step 6: Install Windows 10
The installation process will begin, and you’ll be asked to follow the prompts to:
- Accept the license terms
- Enter your product key (if necessary)
- Set up any additional settings or preferences
- Wait for the installation to complete
Final Steps
Once the installation is complete:
- To activate Windows 10, connect a valid Microsoft account or purchase a license.
- Update the operating system and any additional software you installed during the process.
By following these steps, you should be able to successfully install Windows 10 using your downloaded ISO file. If you encounter any issues during the process, refer back to our troubleshooting guide for more information on resolving common problems.
